Time to eliminate ``super snakes''

Reading your Jan. 14 ``super snake'' article on the finding of African rock pythons in the Everglades I came to the realization that we must reinvent ourselves in our efforts to stop this terrible onslaught. It will become worse if not addressed immediately.

We used to have lots and lots of alligators back in the day. Alligator hunters soon realized how much the public enjoyed wearing these little critters as purses, belts and shoes. The gator population was kept in check.

Nowadays a snakeskin purse, belt or shoes costs a small fortune and are all imported. Why not hire hunters to kill these beasts and turn them into pretty little things to wear?

Haute Couture comes to Miami, some brave hunters earn some money, designers earn some money, we can once again safely visit the wonderful Everglades and the dangerous snake population diminishes.

Where are the ducks?

Only 2 weekends left in the 09-10 Duck Season. Other than a few good days at the STAs, this has been pretty disappointing. Too much cold weather may have pushed the birds just past us. Maybe it was the STAs themselves that kept the birds off the traditional areas in the Glades. The Lake was good for a week or so then turned back. Maybe it was the pressure of all the hunters. Its so bad that even a trip to the Glades where a few ducks was no problem has become one skunked morning after another. Luckily, turkey season is around the corner and there are a few STA permits left.
