Closed up phase one with a bang...breakfast wise that is. Saw less birds than yesterday. Looks like I will be heading back $%#^ when it reopens in 2 weeks. Breakfast was first class as usual. Started with Bloody Marys followed by some leftover from Alex's House...some oxtail, chicken breasts and beans & rice. Then moved to the main course of an everglades scramble consisting of eggs, hashbrowns with sautéed onions and spanish chorizo.

Today is definitely a case of "Its better to be hunting somewhere than nowhere". First shot at 730. 2 ringers and 2 mottleds total

2 this am but a great morning overall

It was colder and windier than last weekend. More flocks in the sky. Should be nice for the second opener.
These lacrosse alpha burly boots are like walking on air. Another beautiful morning in the duck blind. Hunting the glades with jp and tano.

Black Friday for Duck Hunters

Was up this am as if I was duck hunting but rather than hitting the local marsh on the west coast (visting inlaws for thanksgiving), I ended up at Dicks Sporting Goods at 5am for the Doorbusters. Ammo was buy 1 box get the 2nd box at 50%off...limit 6. Guess how many I bought. More importantly Santa picked p a youth Rossi 20gauge/22lr two barrel combo for $99 bucks.

Anyone having ducks for thanksgiving? Doesn't look like I will be. Cold front later this week should be very nice.

Day 2

Due to the lack of birds in the Glades and the fact some of us got home about the time some of you left for the marsh in the am, we took the airboats out for a while this am in Francis Taylor WMA. Water is very low but great for riding.

Looks like no ducks till next weekend, Hopefully the cold front will bring some in. Maybe a pig hunt by the inlaws Friday am.

Few more days..

Here we are the last week before the opener. Scouting so far has been depressing. Birds have not made it south yet. Reports from throughout Florida are the same..less birds around than last year. Seems we need some more cold weather to get them down. Regardless, I will be out nice and early Saturday for the opener.

Great Dinner Island Family Hog Hunt

Spent Saturday at Dinner Island WMA in Hendry County for the Family Hog Hunt. Its a special quota hunt which allows 1 adult and 2 youths under 18 to harvest hogs. Started early with Luke shooting the first at just past 7am. I followed up with a second hog an hour later. The grand finale was my 8yo son shooting his first in the evening. All 3 of them were over 100 pounds. Now I have lots of meat for sausage!!

Video from Sunday..

Back in the Saddle Again.

It was good to be back in the marsh this morning. The usual suspects were there in a spot that shall remain nameless. No birds seen but it was great to be out early, especially after the time change. Pep and Alex's Prop sheared off and threw a piece into the hull which caused a slow ride back for them. Glad everyone is alright
